The leap from this novel to the rest of Rohmer's work is pretty clear whenever reading the dialogue or Rohmer's (sometimes quite nice) visual descriptions. The narrative is also classic Rohmer. Has a certain heaviness that his movies (or at least the ones I've seen) doesn't have, the simple difference, maybe, being that he has to enunciate descriptions in a way you obviously don't have to in film (or at least works differently). Especially notable when he describes women.
