Bonomini's writing is instantly recognizable in its resemblance to the few other Hispanic authors I've read; it has the same abstract, lyrical register along with the meta-imaginative concepts that seem to categorize a swathe of that work. While like with most short story collections the work was up and down, I finished it rather impressed. This type of work is Tyler-slop for sure, but the moments of extraordinary prose in this collection pushed it beyond just the tickling of my favorite topics. Highlights:
